Maria Saca-Racila was born on February 11, 1941 in the village of Draganesti, in Balti district. She studied at the Republican School of Fine Arts I. Repin in Chisinau, then worked as an artist at the Carpet Factory in Straseni and at the Republican House of Folk Art. In the 60s, she became a full member of the Union of Plastic Artists of Moldova, and during her career took part in many republican, union and foreign exhibitions in countries such as Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Sweden, France, Mongolia, Norway, USA, Canada, India, Cyprus, Japan, Algeria.
The artist's works are kept in the collections of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of the Republic of Moldova, in the National Art Museum of Moldova, in the Onisiphor Ghibu Library in Chisinau and in several private collections in the Republic of Moldova, Sweden, Canada, France, USA.
For her activity, Maria Saca-Racheila received the title "Honorary Artist of the Moldavian SSR" (1987), the "Meritul Civic" medal (1996), the National Prize of the Republic of Moldova (1998), the UAP Prize for Outstanding Achievements (2007)), the Prize of the Ministry Culture (2008).
Promoting the art of tapestry in the Republic of Moldova, Maria Saca-Racila is an outstanding creative person who uses folk textile traditions in her works through the plastic language of a new style, supported by the semantics of contemporary art.
