Sergiu Cuciuc, artist and public figure, was born on November 14, 1940 in the village of Doibani, Dubasari district. He graduated the Republican Art School I. Repin in Chisinau (1956-1961) and the Institute of Architecture, Painting and Sculpture I. Repin in St. Petersburg, Faculty of History and Theory of Arts (1962-1969). He strated his artistic activity in 1962 and in 1965 he became a member of the Union of Plastic Artists of Moldova.
From 1961 to 1973 he worked as a museographer, then he became director of the Republican Museum of Art (1979-1983) and chairman of the steering committee of the Union of Plastic Artists (1987-1992). In 1999 and 2001-2002, he worked at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, even becoming a Deputy Minister.
In the period from 1992 to 1995, Sergiu Cuciuc combined his creative activity with the activity of a scientific researcher at the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova, where he developed the monograph "Contemporary Painting in Moldova", and earlier in 1975, in collaboration with Matus Livshits, edited the album-monograph Gleb Sainciuc.
The works of Sergiu Cuciuc have been presented at various exhibitions in countries such as Romania, Russia, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, France, Denmark, Germany, Mongolia, Japan, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Kazakhstan. Many of his paintings have remained in the museums of these countries. Also, for his creative activity, the artist was awarded numerous prizes and awards.
