National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History hosts a unique exhibition dedicated to Moldovan folk shirts and organized on the occasion of the centenary of unification with Romania.
The event is organized by the community “Șezătoare Basarabia”, which for many years has been promoting the authenticity and originality of Moldovan and Romanian folk costumes. The project began in March 2017 with the purpose to create one hundred folk shirts made from new materials, but focusing on old sources: photographs, drawings, sketches, damaged shirts, etc.

During this period, more than 250 women studied the specifics and techniques of knitting and tailoring, as well as the artistic principles of the manufacturing of folk shirts. The participants are members of the community “Șezătoare Basarabia”, representatives of various other communities from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, who took the responsibility to restore traditional shirts as an integral part of the authentic folk costume. Vintage shirts for women, men and children, very valuable specimens, were rescued in order to maintain and promote the local traditions.

The purpose of this exhibition is the promotion of authentic Romanian folk costume in Moldova and will be of particular interest to folk artists, ethno-folk groups, technologists, cultural figures and researchers, etc.

The exhibition will be opened until the end of February.
