Moldovan wines continues to take part and win awards at various international competitions. The undisputed quality of wine of Moldova was confirmed at the International Competition "Galicja Vitis", which took place on May 15 and 16 in Poland. Moldovan winemakers, with the support of the National Office of Vine and Wine, won 34 medals (one Grand Gold, 26 gold medals, 7 silver medals). Moldova was represented at the competition by 29 winemakers who presented 103 samples of wine.
More than 100 samples of wine were assessed by a jury composed of experienced oenologists and sommeliers, on a 100-point scale established by the International Organization of Vine and Wine. Therefore, Moldovan wines competed in 8 main categories (white, rosé and red wines, sparkling and semi-sparkling wines, white wines made from red grapes, white wines made using special technologies, dessert and liqueur wines) and receiving 92 balls for Grand Gold medal, 86 points for gold medals and 82 points for silver medals.
Thus, Negru de Purcari won the Grand Gold award (93.67 points) and was declared the winner of the competition.
In early May, Moldovan winemakers also took part at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. Here our country won 36 medals, including one Grand Gold (Taraboste Rosu from Chateau Vartely), 10 gold and 25 silver medals. At the 26th edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles over 9,000 wines from 46 countries were registered and were evaluated by 350 jurors from 50 states. It is worth mentioning that sommelier Mihai Druta, the representative of Moldova, entered the top five jury members.
